Island Dance Studio opened its doors in
1999, on September 17th. This September we are proud to celebrate
11 enchanting years of dance in Port Perry. Island Dance Studio
is owned and operated by Artistic Director Richelle Kinley-Van
Dyk. Richelle started offering classes in the Scugog Island
Community Centre and one year later expanded to a 2nd location
in the Prince Albert Community Center. Richelle then purchased
the Manchester Community Center in 2001 from the Township of
Scugog, which is now known as the home of Island Dance Studio.
"It has always been my lifelong dream to have a location which
embodies artistic passion and is truly motivating and inspiring
to all who enter." States Richelle.
Richelle offers a beautiful historic setting for dancers of
all ages to learn excellent technique and artistry, just as
she learned at the National Ballet School in Toronto. Richelle
is pleased to have highly accredited adult faculty members.
Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary Modern, Musical
Theatre, Exams and Competitive Dance are offered at I.D.S. Contact

A message from the Artistic Director
of Island Dance Studio:
I am very proud to be celebrating 11 years of business in Port
Perry. Owning my own studio has been a dream and goal for as
long as I can remember. Thank you to all of my valued customers
for their commitment and support of the Island Dance Studio.

The Nutcracker: (Sept.-Dec.)
The Nutcracker is an opportunity for all students at Island
Dance Studio to participate in a full length theatrical ballet
production. The Nutcracker is for dancers of all ages: 3-Adult
and is a complimentary event.
My driving force in producing yearly productions of the Nutcracker
is to see that kids “do love ballet!”. This is my
wish and my yearly dream come true.
The Nutcracker brings children of all ages together and teaches
them commitment, respect, mentoring and love of the stage. The
Nutcracker brings families and parents together also through
rehearsals volunteering and the final presentations.
The more children perform, the stronger presenters they become.

Exams:
Exams are offered to students who show potential and a strong
interest in dance. Exams help dancers achieve goals and improve
technical skills. Exams also offer a universal standard at Island
Dance Studio where we offer world renowned disciplines:
Cecchetti Ballet Exams, ADAPT Jazz and Tap Exams.
Respected examiners from the dance community critique the dancers
and issue certificates upon completion of each new level.
Exams are by invitation and are optional to non company dancers.
Striving and achieving goals creates confidence and greater
self-esteem
Competition:
Competition is an excellent way for dancers to express and share
their creative side. Company Dancers A,B, & C are eligible
to participate in competitions. All disciplines of dance offered
at Island Dance Studio are performed at local competitions.
In competition teams of dancers work together, support and stand
by each other at all times. Each dancer is committed to uphold
their end of the dance, each other, their family and their teacher.
This is a dancer's chance to shine and share with as many people
as possible.
Production: (Jan-June)
Production numbers are a yearly opportunity for all dancers
at Island Dance Studio to perform more. Production numbers have
new themes each year and are a collaboration of work by the
faculty of Island Dance Studio.
Productions offer a variety of styles which include all forms
offered at I.D.S. This is the time for friendships, fun and
excitement. Dancers can participate at no charge but are asked
to attend all rehearsals which are marked out on the I.D.S.
Calendar in advance.
Production to be performed at recital.
Recital: (June)
A recital is held at the end of each dance season. Performances
take place each year at the Town Hall 1873 on the corner of
Queen and Simcoe Streets in downtown Port Perry. Recital dances
represent each class which takes place at the studio throughout
the dance season. Each class has a dance in the recital. Anyone
wishing to participate in more is invited to join the yearly
production number.
Recital dances are geared to show off skills which were worked
on throughout the year in an entertaining way. Costumes, music
and length of dances are geared to the dancer's age, ability
and current interests.
Family and friends are invited to cheer and support all of the
dancers at the studio young and old. The audience can experience
all levels and abilities at this group presentation and see
the high quality of dance being taught at I.D.S.
